Race-STWM-1.jpgMy 10th guest on Inside the Runner's Mind is the third lady of the series – and one of Canada’s best marathoners.  A yoga instructor by day, she lives and trains in Vancouver and has made significant strides since first racing in 2005: Katherine Moore.

Katherine broke the 3-hour barrier for the marathon in 2008's Victoria – running 2:54 – and has since run three times in the 2:40s, including her PB (2:47:25) in Victoria 12 months later.  She’s been the top Canadian finisher at the last two Toronto Waterfront marathons and ranked in the Top 10 of the country’s official marathon rankings the last three years – her best being 6th in 2010.

Ms. Moore's PBs include 29:34 for 8k, 36:22 for 10k, 57:51 for 15k and 1:21:12 for the half-marathon.  Throw in her marathon mark and Katherine’s bests all came between April 2009 and February 2010… quite a PB purple patch!

Being as teaching it is her career, yoga plays a big part in our guest’s life – and she encourages fellow runners to practice; extolling the benefits of how and why perfecting hot and power poses is a great way to complement running through her Running into Yoga workshops.  She’s also been a Lululemon ambassador since 2007.

I've put together a little highlights reel, featuring some of the best bits from each of the nine Inside the Runner's Mind episodes so far.  And even better than that?  It's less than 10 minutes long!  So, sit back, relax and enjoy a taste of the ITRM story so far...  ~ BCJ

Hey guys,

The ITRM podcast output will unfortunately be slowing a little, at least for the next month or two, while I focus on steadying my financial ship (and figuring out a way of paying the bills while still producing the podcasts for free).  However, I still hope to produce at least one (two-parter) every month.

In the meantime, keep checking back into the site for updates -- I've recently added several blogs to the LINKS section in the right panel, as well as photos to most of the posts -- and enjoying the interviews (those you haven't had a chance to sample yet).

And if you fancy throwing me five bucks to show your appreciation and aid me in covering production costs (a big thanks to those who already have -- it helps more than you know), the ‘Buy Me A Coffee’ link is at the foot of the right-hand panel.

Thanks for listening!

BC Johnny

Forerunners-Team-1.jpgMy ninth guest on Inside the Runner's Mind is the third fastest Canadian marathoner of all-time; an Olympian who is a national track champion for both the 5000m and 10000m and now a central figure in the Vancouver running community: Peter Butler.

Peter's finest hour arguably came in 1985, when he won the California International Marathon in a Sub-2:11 PB.  His time of 2:10:56 was the second best by a Canadian for almost 26 years, until Reid Coolsaet – chasing a London Olympic berth – sneaked under it in Toronto last October.

In Part Two, hear Peter’s thoughts on training, nutrition, the birth of Forerunners – and why a pre-race fry-up proved the unlikely breakfast of champions for racing buddy and fellow Canadian running icon Art Boileau at the 1986 Boston Marathon.

Forerunners, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, is also a gold sponsor for this coming weekend's First Half half-marathon – and has supported the Pacific Road Runners' race since its inception.

He competed for Canada in the 10000m at the inaugural World Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland -- missing out on the final by a second -- and also in the World Cross Country Championships and three successive Commonwealth Games.  Peter also made the Olympic team in 1980, but was denied the chance to compete in Moscow by the Canadian boycott.

In 1986, keen to carve out a post-racing career in the sport he loved, our guest opened the Forerunners running store with his wife Karen – and Forerunners (now also boasting a North Vancouver location) has become an integral part of the Greater Vancouver running community; championing a healthy lifestyle via its running clinics and expert staff.

Forerunners is also a gold sponsor for this coming weekend's First Half half-marathon -- and has supported the Pacific Road Runners' race since its inception.
